4D3N Ipoh Penang Trip - Part 1

During Hari Raya holiday period went for a short eating trip with my parents and grandparents to Ipoh & Penang. It was quite a good makan trip. Mum says since I have started this blog for school, I might as well make use of it and try blogging.

We started our journey early to beat the traffic and hopefully able to reach Ipoh for lunch with my aunt. Journey was not too bad considering that many have already balik kampung. Ipoh lunch was a quick one at one of the many coffee shop, nothing to shout about. Mum decided to go buy some egg atrt for tea time.

Look at the queue, all for the famous egg tart at Ipoh old town.
Nam Heong Dim Sum
2, Jalan Bandar Timah, 30000 Ipoh

After this we went to check into our aprtment at Kinta Riverview, not bad, spacious. Rested and off to dinner.
We are here.
Look at the crowd. It is only 6pm! Guess Ipoh is all about food. Dad ordered some of their specialities and we waited quite a bit because the restaurant was really busy.
Stir fry vege, Salted egg mantis (赖尿虾), Fried roast pork (爆烧肉), Pig intestine stir fry with chili & lard
My favourite, Blanched sotong

This dish is so good that I ate most of it. The sotong is just blanched (lightly boiled) then they add on top some soy sauce and garlic. Sprinkle some spring onion. Must order.
Kwai Fah Fish Pot

I was busy eating the sotong that when I got to take photo the fish head was already taken away by my granddad. Anyway this is their famous fish (RM125). Dad said fish is about 1kg. The soup was good, fish little bones so good enough for me. Bottoms up.

It was a satisfying first day.

2nd day morning. Dad said let's go out early for dim sum (which Ipoh is famous for). So we left the apartment at about 6;45am. (Yes it is this early). We reach the place in just 10 min but look at the crowd.
This was the initial dim sum place we wanted to go to but decided not to.
Look at the crowd, they are not queueing for table but actually queueing to get their dim sum. It is
self service.
Just few doors from Foh Sun Dim Sum
The crowd inside is just as great.
Same system, queue for your dim sum.

After a hearty breakfast, we drive around Ipoh for awhile and pais a visit to my aunt before making our way slowly towards Penang.
These was how much we ate! Yum yum.
Traffic was quite bad so dad decided to stop for lunch at a quite seafood kampung about an hour before Penang, it's called Bagan Samak.

Live river prawns, am drooling

Refreshing Passion fruit drink
It was not a fancy restaurant but at about 1:30pm, it was packed. The kampung road towards the restaurant (which is the last restaurant) is pretty quiet.
Deep fried big garoupa龙

Local vege stir fry with egg, nice

This is the steam river prawn with glass noodle
This is a must order dish because the sauce and the glass noodles (underneath the prawns) were so good. But please call ahead of time to see if the big prawns are available.
Assam sotong
Food was super delicious and think the bill came out to be around RM240+, well my dad said it's worth the price paid for. Here's the address:
